Maintaining a thriving and active team is best done by a group of like-minded Leaders. In that vein, please take a moment to review this page and decide if being a Co-Leader sounds like a way you want to contribute to Aphrodite’s Piers. Please use the Contact form to apply or ask questions.

Co-Leader Responsibilities
Leadership
Communication
Task Journal Management
- Enjoy the Aphrodite's Piers team! You gotta love us to lead us.
- Be familiar enough with team guidelines (see Guidelines) to be comfortable explaining and enforcing them.
- Model good membership behavior in sharing, requesting, tasking, and communicating.
- Keep up with reading Announcements. (Co-Leaders are highly encouraged to sign up for email alerts.)
- Approve current members and decline non-Co-op members for the Aphrodite's Piers Facebook Group.
- Make yourself accessible to the team. Keep your online status visible when you are opted in to race. (Invisible while opted out is okay!)
Communication
- You must be a fluent English speaker with an English-written town name to be a Co-Leader for this Co-op.
- After you're promoted to Co-Leader, your email address will be needed to share leader documents (Team Statistics, Applications, Member Surveys). You will need to add Firenze/Rachel as a Facebook friend in order to be invited to the Leaders Facebook Chat.
- Your input is welcome. The benefit of multiple leaders is the council of peers; we work together to maintain our Co-op culture and discuss the more challenging decisions or any membership issues that arise.
- Encourage and inform the team by sending routine messages (see Co-Leader Weekly Checklist).
- Our message focus is that we want to encourage tasking and sharing, remind the team regularly about the website, and occasionally mention the task minimum and other guidelines.
- The leader-to-team message has a 142 (?) character limit. All of the suggested messages should fit those parameter.
- It is most important that we are responsive to what’s actually happening in the race, not pre-scripted notes. If you have other messages of importance or wish to use your own voice to share the same info, please stay on theme and positive, but by all means, lead!
- Announcements are sent on an as-needed basis by the Leader, typically once a week. Feel free to offer suggestions for what should be included.
- It's rare that a Co-Leader would need to make a kick on their own, but if it is necessary, be sure to explain yourself in the kick note. The kick note only allows 75 characters, but please use it as well as you can.
- Should you ever have any questions, please contact Firenze immediately in Chat or via email so we are on the same page.
Task Journal Management
- As a Co-Leader, you co-manage the board to help Aphrodite's Piers meet its performance goals. Please use this privilege carefully and exercise your best judgment. When dumping tasks for board-management purposes, it is usually better to err on the safe side by giving the task(s) a few hours on the board or skimming/asking Chat to see if others are about to take one of the task(s) you're clearing. Ultimately, though, Leaders manage the Task Journal at their discretion.
- Log on (relatively) often to help dump all tasks below 132 point Co-op standard and keep the Task Journal moving. We don’t have minimum log-now, but we are typically on daily, even if for a few moments.
- Many of our players enjoy (or dislike) different types of tasks. We cannot accommodate personal preferences, but there are little things we try to do to keep the Task Journal moving at a reasonable pace. First, when eliminating tasks, consider the point value. Here are some other board goals:
- Leave no more than two of the same kind of task on the board, e.g. crops, mining, ships, etc.
- Leave no more than one of these tasks on the board (unless there are fewer than five tasks available to take): planes, trains, rubber/silk/cacao.
- Ships are tougher as there are varieties in products and destination; if there are more than 2-3 ship-related tasks on the board, use your best judgment as to which should remain.
- If the board is totally or bar full, consider removing lower point or slower tasks.
- On the last day of the Regatta, try to monitor how many players have tasks left to complete and keep the board moving by removing a couple of longer or lower point tasks when it starts to get full. There's no need to dump like crazy if almost everyone is done; it'll save us a little in the dumping penalty.
